Weekend Briefing - Weekend Briefing No. 524
Welcome to the weekend! I recently had a fascinating conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning and New York Times bestselling author Charles Duhigg about his new book, Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection. After reading the book and chatting with Charles, the thing that surprised me is that supercommunicators aren’t necessarily skilled orators or charismatic speakers. They aren’t born with the skill, they learned it. And you can too. Supercommunicators know the importance of recognizing—and then matching—each kind of conversation, and how to hear the complex emotions, subtle negotiations, and deeply held beliefs that color so much of what we say and how we listen. Since the conversation was so enjoyable and the topic so useful, I thought I'd focus this entire briefing on Supercommunicators. The first video is our full interview, which is compelling from start to finish. The following are 1-minute clips - just click to watch. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel if you find them valuable. And, if you like the conversation go buy the book. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. SupercommunicatorsHow To Win Someone Over Without Challenging Their IdentitySocial Media and KidsProject Liberty Foundation, a global non-profit organization founded by Frank McCourt, recently released findings from a large-scale, global survey focused on attitudes about technology and social media’s impact on children around the world. Conducted by the Foundation’s research arm, “Publics Around the World: Kids - and Parents - Need a Safer Internet” reveals widespread concerns and consistent agreement that social media companies - more than governments or individual users - should bear the greatest responsibility for the online safety of children. According to the new report, based on a survey of 14,000 adults in seven countries –including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, India, Brazil and South Africa, people are deeply worried that social media opens the door to a range of harms for young people.
