Heyyy! |
How are you? |
Before reading this email, if you’re on Instagram give me a follow: @mat.ds |
I post one reel per day with value! |
In today’s newsletter we’re going to see: |
|
Are you ready? 👀 |
Let’s go! |
|
Mat’s Diary |
My biggest YouTube video has been released |
Youtube is the best way to share content. |
I love Twitter but you’re limited. |
With Youtube you can show, tell and people listen to you. |
It’s probably the best platform but… |
It takes a lot of time. The recording, the editing, etc… |
Or a lot of money to hire people to do it for you. |
So when I release a new video I am very happy. |
And I just did it with the best video on the channel. Well, we only have 3 videos for the moment. |
“How I make $57,000 per month with my Shopify App” |
Watch it by clicking here |
|
In this video, I share: |
|
Everything you need to know is in this video. |
I know I’ve been sharing my story a lot in this newsletter. But it’s always different in a video and even if you know my story, you should watch it. |
“Built for Shopify” Badge is very close |
We had 14 points to fix in the email Shopify sent us. |
We did it and we submitted again. |
They were quick to reply back. I waited only 1 hour. |
And after this hour Shopify gave me 2 other points to check. |
1 new point. |
1 from a previous point that wasn’t properly fixed. |
So we’re back into the process of handling it. |
I don’t know if it will be the last submission because they usually give you points to check and once it’s done, they give you more. |
Anyway, they’re really fast to give feedback! |
Once it’s done I’ll tell you the impact it had on my app. |
Information about the future Wide Event in Paris |
We now have a date for our next Wide Event so write it down. |
May 27, 2024. |
We’ll all meet in Paris in a place that is still secret today 🤫 |
The first one was at Le Grand Rex. A mythical place in Paris 👇 |
|
And the next place will be as magical as Le Grand Rex if not more! |
You’ll be able to get the tickets to that event very soon. |
We’ll have: |
|
Everyone from the ecosystem. |
New partnerships are created at these events, new businesses or friendships. |
These are the events you don’t want to miss. |
But it’s not enough. Successful people will talk at this event so you will also learn a lot. |

Zero to Hero #2: The Shopify App Growth Blueprint |
Validating The Problem |
Last month I shared the first step of the Blueprint: Finding an idea. |
If you didn’t read it you can do it here: https://news.matdesousa.com/p/bssa-84-shopify-app-growth-blueprint-1 |
But now that we have our problem (or list of problems for the lucky people) we need to validate it. |
You don’t build after you find a problem. |
What if no one else has the problem? What if the problem isn’t big enough? What if they’re not willing to pay for the problem? What if they’re not willing to use another SaaS product than the one they’re using?
|
In this phase, we’re going to answer all these questions. |
And if you had enough of talking to people when you were finding problems, I’m sorry to tell you that this will be the same. |
As I always say, talking to people is the key. |
Whether it’s to get partners, to get customers, or even talking to your own users. |
You validate the problem with 2 types of people: |
|
The people who told you about the problem will answer the questions: |
|
And the new people in your target customers will answer: |
|
Step 1: Is the problem big enough? |
Contact again all the people who told you about the problem. |
You need to understand if the pain is big enough. |
The biggest factor, from my experience, is how excited they are about it. |
Do they reply fast whenever you talk to them about that problem? Do they talk a lot about it? Do they follow up themselves when you say you’re working on the problem? How did they react when you said you were going to find a solution?
|
Based on how excited they are about the problem, it will tell you about the pain. |
I mean, imagine someone found a product to ensure you wouldn’t die before you’re old. |
Wouldn’t you ask them about it? |
Wouldn’t you follow up about how to get it? |
Wouldn’t you be really excited? |
Now your SaaS idea is probably far from solving medical problems… But you get the idea. |
If it’s nice to have, people will take their time to reply. |
So the first step is about the feeling. Do you feel that people actually need it? |
If you’re hesitating it means it’s not the case. When people truly need something, you just know it. |
Step 2: Are they willing to pay for it? |
They can be excited about the problem but not able to pay for it. |
Or they might be excited but it’s a nice to have so they can’t pay a lot. |
Anyway, you have to know. |
The best way would be to get payment from them. That’s how you actually validate the problem is worth it. |
But let’s face it, it’s hard to sell something that doesn’t exist yet. |
So instead we can use the direct question: “Would you pay for it?” |
How do they react? Do they take time to reply? Do they say yes instantly? |
Do they say “yes” and add words like “I would to it immediately” |
Or do they say: “Hum, I don’t know, it depends…” |
There are 3 questions I also love to ask that will guide you: |
If I were building the product you need, how much do you think would be too low you would question the quality? How much would be too much and you wouldn’t consider it? How much would be perfect
|
Usually with the first 2 questions, the last one makes more sense. That’s why you should ask these questions in order. |
Step 3: Do more people have the problem? |
You need to contact again all the people you already contacted to get ideas. |
But this time you need to talk directly about the problem you found. |
The goal is to understand if they have the problem too but you just didn’t notice. |
At this point, if the other people are willing to pay for it and are excited about it, you just need these people to have that problem even a bit. |
You don’t need them to be excited too. |
Because you’ll always find this structure: |
Group A: Have your problem and want a solution |
Group B: Have your problem but don’t want a solution |
Group C: Don’t have the problem and don’t want a solution |
and these people might be in Group B. |
The people in Group B will install your app when Group A is successful with it. And Group C might end up installing it when Group B and C are successful with it. |
Post everywhere about your problem also. |
You need to understand if more people have that problem too. |
I won’t teach you how to contact people as we already did it in our first step: Finding problems. |
That’s it for today! |
|
If you enjoyed this email and you want to help me, forward this email to 2 different people! |
