Massive boost in AI development expected this year

Artificial intelligence technology is likely to improve rapidly this year as developers feed AI systems more data, merge image generators with large language models, program AI to use humanlike logic and add capabilities to robots. Multimodal chatbots will be able to produce novel text, images and sounds by analyzing photos, text and other kinds of media; respond to one type of media with another; logically solve problems through a series of steps; and use apps and websites autonomously, researchers and developers say.

Savvy leaders know when and how to switch up their leadership style based on the situation and the person, asserts leadership expert and author Paul Thornton. Using suitable leadership styles -- discussing, directing or delegating -- "motivates people to be fully engaged and motivated ... [and] also builds people's knowledge and skills, making them more effective employees," Thornton writes.

Market research firm Deloitte points to five trends in the semiconductor industry this year, in addition to a global sales forecast of $588 billion. Significant growth of generative AI accelerator chips, expansion of smart manufacturing and the need for additional testing capacity are expected amid export controls on advanced node manufacturing and increased threats of semiconductor IP cyberattacks, Deloitte says.
