Flow State - Joey Beltram
Flow State recommends instrumental music every weekday, highlighting an artist who inspires music appreciation in this age of algorithms. If you enjoy Flow State, consider becoming a paid member – that unlocks our weekly Tuesday mixes and private Spotify playlists. Good morning. It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Joey Beltram, an American dance music producer and DJ from Queens. He grew up in New York City and was exposed to early disco, house, and techno music. He made his first hit, “Energy Flash,” in 1990, when “you couldn’t just open your laptop… and release a track in 5 minutes,” he told Iconic Underground Magazine. “You had to programme everything, it was all hardware with midi cables running across the room like… clotheslines.” Beltram is one of the producers mentioned on the Daft Punk song “Teachers,” itself a compelling dance music syllabus. We’re listening to Classics, an LP from 1996 that collects various singles – notably “Subsonic Trance” and “Mentasm.” We’re also playing Trax Classix from 2005 which is a little harder and incorporates more acid sounds. He also did a great set at The Lot Radio last July which is on YouTube. Classics - Joey Beltram (60m, vocal snippets on tracks 1, 5, 9, and 12) Trax Classix - Joey Beltram (60m, no vocals) Have a great weekend. |
