how to stay current as a Python developer

Hey there,

You know what sucks about life as a “professional developer?”

Not having enough time to sit down and focus on learning.

In school, it was easy to carve out hours to hole up and study some really intricate stuff. It didn’t even have to have an immediate “return on investment” for my time.

Heck, I “wasted” whole afternoons reading books about Prolog! Something that I’ll probably never use in my “professional life.”

And you know what? Hanging out at the university library reading about arcane stuff without a worry in the world felt GREAT.

It’s not so easy anymore, though. Fast forward a few years later and now you’ve got real responsibilities: a job, a spouse, a pet… kids, maybe.

And don’t get me wrong—OF COURSE, these relationships are the number one priority in our lives.

But sometimes, I just miss the geeky days.

I think the core of it is that keeping up with new stuff is so difficult.

Software development is moving at a crazy-fast pace. Python has gained so much momentum, and there are new features, libraries, and projects released every week.

I know it's incredibly hard to stay current as a developer, especially when you don’t have a system in place to help you stay up to date and hone your skills on a continuing basis.

And it can be absolute chaos trying to research a new curriculum every week. I know I often feel like I’m missing out if I have to constantly make tweaks to my learning plan.

It feels inefficient, and like a waste of time.

That's why I created the Real Python membership program:

If you want to get access to hundreds of Python video lessons and new course content released every week, this is as good as it gets!

Instead of having to go and spend time researching new and interesting things to learn, you can trust that we'll surface helpful and fun topics for you each week.

As a member, you also get to hang out with other subscribers and the Real Python team in a private Slack community. It's our virtual water cooler where you can ask questions and become friends with other Pythonistas.

And with new content published weekly, you’ll always find something new to boost your programming skills and to grow your dev career.

My goal for Real Python is to continue growing as a learning resource you can trust and rely on.

You can join the journey by becoming a Real Python member today:
