You can upgrade to paid here. Good morning. Today we’re listening to Pan-American, an ambient project from guitarist Mark Nelson. His first musical adventure was as guitarist and singer in the Virginia-based post-rock band Labradford. Around 1997, he was drawn in a new direction, seeking to “explore the possibilities of sampling and computer technology as well as his interests in dub and techno.”¹ His new album, Reverberations of Non-Stop Traffic on Redding Road, just came out a few weeks ago. It’s a collaboration with producer and multi-instrumentalist Kramer, and consists of ghostly Americana tracks, as if William Basinski or The Caretaker were handed a guitar. We’re also playing Pan-American’s eponymous debut LP from 1998. Nelson was previously a guest on the Ambient Country podcast, where he discussed influences like Duke Ellington, Rachika Nayar, and KMRU.
