Drake's AI Deepfake Dilemma

Debating the Authenticity

Last year, several AI-generated tracks mimicking Drake’s voice stirred controversy, prompting his label, Universal Media Group, to demand their removal from streaming platforms. Here’s the original (yes—we’re now at the stage of having to claim “original” for Deepfakes…)

The situation escalated when Drake himself expressed frustration on social media. Over the recent weekend, a new track titled "Push Ups" surfaced, sparking debates about its legitimacy. It features lyrics that could be interpreted as jabs towards Kendrick Lamar and Metro Boomin. While the voice closely resembles Drake's, keen listeners noted subtle glitches hinting at AI involvement. Take a listen 👇️ 

Drake's Cryptic Responses

Drake has yet to claim the song, yet he playfully nodded towards it in his Instagram stories, including a deepfake video of Metro Boomin in a scene from "Drumline," a 2002 film. This ambiguous engagement has left fans speculating whether Drake has embraced AI technology to produce the track or if he is merely capitalizing on the surrounding buzz.

AI in the Music Industry: A New Normal?

Whether or not Drake had a direct hand in "Push Ups," his interaction with the track highlights a growing acceptance of AI within the entertainment sphere. While initially resistant, Drake’s current use of AI for humor suggests a shift in perspective, reflecting a broader industry trend toward integrating AI more deeply into creative processes.

🌐 LinkedIn Debuts AI-Enhanced Premium Company Pages

LinkedIn is testing a new Premium Company Page subscription aimed at small and medium businesses, which integrates AI-assisted content creation to enhance company profiles. Priced from $99.99 monthly or $839.88 annually, this service offers features like visitor tracking, prominent call-to-action buttons, testimonials, and a verified badge. This initiative represents LinkedIn's ongoing efforts to diversify its revenue and improve platform utility amidst evolving social media dynamics.

👻 Snap to Introduce Watermarks on AI-Generated Images

Snap announced plans to add watermarks to AI-generated images on its platform, featuring a translucent Snap logo with a sparkle emoji. This watermark will appear on all AI-created images saved from Snap or exported to camera rolls. The move aims to enhance transparency and user awareness about AI-generated content, aligning with similar initiatives by other tech companies. Snap's watermarking strategy includes terms prohibiting watermark removal, though enforcement details remain unclear. Here’s what it looks like (blame Snap for the image quality, not us!) 

🤖 Linux Foundation and Partners Launch OPEA for Open Enterprise AI Development

The Linux Foundation has initiated the Open Platform for Enterprise AI (OPEA), aimed at developing open, interoperable, and modular generative AI systems for enterprise use. Collaborators like Intel, Cloudera, and others will focus on creating standardized components that enhance the deployment and effectiveness of AI across different hardware. OPEA also plans to develop evaluation criteria for generative AI systems, assessing their performance, features, trustworthiness, and readiness for enterprise integration.
