“AI is real,” said Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, in a meeting with reporters at a Seattle hotel conference room Monday evening, after spending the day with JPMorgan tech leaders in meetings with Microsoft and Amazon. As evidence, consider the 2,000 machine learning and AI experts and data scientists employed by the world’s largest bank — and the way Dimon himself used a chatbot to prepare for a meeting with Elon Musk. Microsoft is cutting a total of around 1,000 jobs across the company, in areas including its Azure cloud unit and HoloLens mixed-reality organization, as the company tries to maintain its profit margins amid heavier capital spending tied to AI. Read more.

Bill Gates has yet to tell the story of his life in book form — until now. The Microsoft co-founder this morning announced a memoir, “Source Code,” due out next year. Read more.

Two robots are part of the construction team at an apartment building rising in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. The robots, backed by an AI platform, roll around and capture 360-degree photos of the site, and in the process speed the build and improve safety. Read more. 

Wizards of the Coast is looking for a principal AI engineer, but the job posting upset some fans of “Dungeons & Dragons,” who want AI nowhere near their card and board games. The company said the role is related to future video games. Read more. 

Vilya, a biotech startup built off technology developed at Seattle's Institute for Protein Design, raised more cash. Investors include Madrona and NVIDIA's venture arm. Read more.

Eighty years after the Allied invasion of Normandy, Microsoft is using artificial intelligence to help preserve the memories and history related to the pivotal turn in World War II. An interactive website and in-person experience relies on AI to enhance archival materials. Read more.
