MIDDI - MIDDI Rewind: How Grand
In search of the finer things in life — because the finest ones still cost too much. You don’t need to wait for a holiday to do something nice for someone (or yourself). All of these finds are perfect for elevating the everyday. This edition was originally published on February 14, 2022. Enjoy!
On this day of grand gestures doled out in the spirit of love, I’m thinking about the idea of doing something grand for yourself. After all, our first and most lasting relationship will always be with ourselves, and that deserves to be celebrated every now and again. Maybe it’s a holiday away somewhere, a nice meal or an item you’ve had on your wish list forever. There are a myriad of ways to “treat yourself,” and while that phrase may be cliché these days, that doesn’t make it any less true (or fun). Like all of the products featured on MIDDI, the three items chosen this week are splurges, but not of another orbit cost-wise. They are accessible luxuries you can give yourself whenever you like, in the name of whatever you like. Celebrate yourself grandly. 1. natureofthings Nourishing Body Creme ($90) A rich, sumptuous body cream is a perfect self-care indulgence. I’ve truly enjoyed slathering on this one from natureofthings with its blend of shea butter, black pepper and hemp seed oil at night and waking up to the happiest, softest skin in the morning. But the packaging is another reason it stood out to me. The heavy glass jar is speckled like stone with a wooden lid, making it something I can actually see myself repurposing after it’s empty. This jar would make a beautiful holder for small trinkets, adding a nature-inspired accent to any dresser or vanity. 2. Jennifer Zeuner Herringbone Chains ($140 and up) Over the years, my taste in jewelry has become very simple. And while a plain gold chain may not seem very grand, treating yourself to one certainly is. I received the Aline necklace from Puerto Rican designer Jennifer Zeuner in one of my Curateur boxes and instantly fell for the herringbone design of this slinky, elegant chain. It drapes perfectly across your collarbone to add a bit of shimmer to everything from a t-shirt to a cocktail dress. Available in five other variations (Carson, Karli, Charisse, Ama and Cami) these chains stand out on their own while making great layering pieces. 3. Graphite Ladders Print (£4.52 and up) I had been searching for the perfect piece to put above our fireplace since the day we moved into this flat. But large-scale prints can be pricey and I didn’t have the budget for an original of that size. Looking for something to echo the other black accents in our living room, I found this print at JUNIQUE, the Berlin print shop founded by Lea Lange, Marc Pohl and Sebastian Hasebrink. It was bold, simple and, most importantly, available in a ton of sizes and formats. I chose an unframed canvas that arrived within a few days, ready to hang, completing my favorite room in minutes. Something to think about … Every so often in a while, I love treating myself to a new coffee table book. One of the titles I have enjoyed the most is Kelly Wearstler: Evocative Style. Every space Kelly Wearstler designs is grand in its own way, filled with sumptuous colors and textures. I can spend hours flipping through the pages for inspiration and daydreaming.
