Switch Weekly - #180: Your Nintendo Update
Bullseye. | Hey, issue #180 of Switch Weekly here, with the week in Nintendo news. I've had a couple of people reach out and say that they've found the odd few issues of Switch Weekly end up in their spam folder. If you've found this to be the case and you'd like to avoid it, then by all means just hit reply to this email and send me a quick message (maybe tell me what was the last game you completed?) — that way your email provider is more likely to treat these as messages you actually want to receive. If you are a Gmail user you can also drag and drop any messages when on desktop to the folder of your choice, such as your Primary tab. The Wonderful 101 is now out on Switch for those who backed it on Kickstarter — I downloaded it on Friday but haven't had chance to jump in yet. Next week sees just over 20 games hitting the eShop, including Jet Lancer, Ion Fury, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and more. Thanks for reading, Nintendo’s full fiscal year 2020 financial results — Oh my. The Switch is now at over 55M units sold, and as for Animal Crossing? Well, it sold over 11M copies in just a few days. Impressive. Craig Majaski // Nintendo Times Nintendo is the latest console firm to warn of potential game delays Andy Robinson // VGC As the world weathers a pandemic, Nintendo may just be recession-proof Jon Irwin // Launcher (The Washington Post) REVIEW Lonely Mountains: Downhill — Another for my wish list: "an absolute freewheeling delight". Jon Mundy // Nintendo Life REVIEW Void Bastards — "a fantastic roguelike with a stellar atmosphere and art style". Here's a couple of other reviews from Nintendo World Report and The Indie Game Website. Jake Yoder // Noisy Pixel REVIEW Spirit of the North — "a great immersive title and one that could be easily recommended. What it lacks in polish, it makes up for in atmosphere and beautiful level designs". Christian Wait // Tech Stomper REVIEW SuperMash — Taking two game genres and mashing them together doesn't seem to quite work as intended: "a great idea that feels squandered thanks to poor execution". Ollie Reynolds // Nintendo Life Pro Golf is coming back to consoles with PGA Tour 2K21 Kim Snaith // GameSpew Playing The Legend of Zelda 20 years ago taught me life lessons that I'm rediscovering now Osman Faruqi // The Guardian EA says it’s ‘planning to deliver for more Nintendo fans’ this year — According to company CEO Andrew Wilson we can expect "multiple EA games" for Switch this year. Andy Robinson // VGC How Animal Crossing’s fake industries let players afford real rent amid COVID-19 — A look at how, amid quarantine, New Horizons is providing an outlet for creativity and commerce. ⚡️ Quick Links: 🔟 The Outer Worlds comes in at just under 10GB on Switch. ❗️ The Switch Online service suffered some downtime this weekend. 🧐 Any idea why Kirby is in this Fortnite trailer? 📑 Why friend codes instead of screen names? Leaked documents reveal all. 🔥 Yup, Nintendo hates fan games with a fiery passion. 🤐 Don't mention selling your Animal Crossing weeds on Facebook. ✨ Playing emulated Nintendo GameCube games on the iPad is now a thing. 🇰🇷 Despite Coronavirus, 1000 people just lined up in South Korea for Switches. 🧥 Big fashion brands are getting in on the AC:NH action with in-game clothing. ❤️ Switch Weekly is ad-free and sustainable thanks to the support of my lovely Patrons, including: PC, CapnGoat, SB, FrozenTrout and others — join them.
