A widespread outage of Windows systems Friday morning was caused by a bug in a software update from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, but it was Microsoft that took much of the heat. Even as the company tried to set the record straight, the incident was emerging as the latest demonstration of the world’s reliance on Microsoft’s platforms, amid heightened scrutiny of the company's own cybersecurity problems.
