Lots of news in the crypto world lately! Both Blockfi and Mt Gox have begun distributing payouts to users who had their funds lost/frozen on the exchanges. And prices seem to be following the trend — unaffected by the news, having already bled out on the rumors from the previous weeks.

But Ethereum has seen a bump, as supposedly the Ethereum ETFs in the U.S will finally go live this week, after being approved earlier this year.

But by far, the biggest tech news came in just before the weekend, as CrowdStrike, a digital security company used by companies around the world, pushed out an update with some bad code, resulting in the blue screen of death on Windows systems, forcing many organizations to shut down completely! We’ll get into this incident more further down the newsletter.

We all Fall Down: How one error affected the world 🟦

Just before this past weekend, a code error with cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike resulted in service outages for companies around the world. This affected many tech companies, including banks, and even brought several airlines to a complete standstill!

In a funny twist, apparently Southwest Airlines was not affected by the issue because they still use Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 as their operating systems!

Afterwards, a number of crypto fans pointed out that blockchain tokens weren’t affected by this outage, and how that fact show the evils of centralization and the enlightenment of decentralization. And yes, while centralization was a factor in this global tech issue, decentralization would not have helped when you have bad code pushed to your server by a provider.

However, decentralization can make a difference. For example, some banks went offline because all of their systems were setup the same way and received the same bad code. On the other hand, while certainly some of nodes for various blockchains went down as well, the blockchains themselves stayed up because they have many validators around the world (hopefully), running on different systems, preventing that one point of failure from bringing down the entire network.

This incident was fascinating to see in action, and luckily, seems to be mostly an inconvenience rather than a catastrophic failure (unless you were invested in CrowdStrike). But, this should be a wakeup call for tech companies around the world to look into making their vital systems more robust!

And while reports show a significant downturn in the overall volume for NFT sales, Gaming NFTs seem to be holding their own, with new mints from Champions Tactics, Tribesters, and Puffverse all quickly selling out.

Though you may not get rich from holding onto gaming NFTs, the benefits are starting to add up as developers add in-game bonuses, deliver token airdrops, offer free mints, and implement other such perks to provide value for owning their NFTs.

The days of using NFTs in gaming has come, and it is not going anywhere!

Latest Play to Earn and Play to Airdrop Releases 🪂

There are always new play to earn, play and earn, and play to airdrop opportunities. Here are a few upcoming events in the web3 gaming space.

Arena of Faith, a free to play, MOBA style game, has begun their play to airdrop campaign for their upcoming ACP token. Arena of Faith is a standard, 5v5, 3 lane, fantasy MOBA, available for Windows and mobile devices.
