Meet The Woman Helping To Improve Financial Health On The Lower East Side

As a daughter of immigrants, Wendy Velazquez grew up with hard-working parents who had few financial resources and rarely discussed money. But after a summer internship at JPMorganChase 16 years ago, Velazquez discovered the power of financial health, which ignited in her a passion for banking and a desire to help others with their financial lives.

Today, she’s a JPMorganChase Community Manager on the Lower East Side, where she leads financial health workshops on topics such as budgeting, understanding credit, saving, and investing.

“Many of my customers remind me of my mom and dad,” she says. “We help them understand how banking works. We have so many individuals come to our workshops and say, ‘Where do I sign up? How do I do this?’”
