DON’T SAY WE DIDN’T WARN YA

How the “women’s sports moment” becomes status quo

We hate to say, “I told you so.” But about this same time last year, we did tell you so: Women’s sport is the moment.

And some moments eventually cease being just moments, and become the status quo. Especially when you have the kind of momentous wins that professional women athletes are having right now.

Like the fact that the WNBA just secured a $2.2 billion TV deal that more than triples the value of the league’s annual media rights.

Or the fact that the Paris 2024 Olympics have almost reached total gender parity, with 28 out of 32 sports that are fully gender equal, according to the committee.

Or the fact that last weekend’s WNBA All-Star game, which pitted WNBA All-Stars against Team USA, commanded more attention and excitement than ever before.

It’s not just something in the air. It’s real, tangible change. And everyone’s feeling it: “I never thought that I would be playing in a league where it would look like this,” Seattle Storm forward Nneka Ogwumike told Sports Illustrated. “It’s such a mark of where we are … It’s not just interest but investment.”

So if you didn’t hear us say it loud enough last year, hear us say it extra loud right now: It’s an amazing time to be investing in — attending, watching, supporting — women’s sports.

Here are three reasons why

PLAN TO LIVE THE DREAM

“When people ask me what I do and why, it’s like I’m not just living for myself, but for generations before me.”

‌‌- WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson, who knows what it takes to build a generational legacy.

What kind of legacy are you building — and planning to leave behind? Our new workshop is all about planning for future generations.

  • 🌴 RETIREMENT REBRAND: Retirement has always looked different for women, but now that they have more wealth, more power, and more freedom than ever before — it’s time to change the terms of the game, says CEO Sallie Krawcheck.
  • 👀 ALL EYES ON HER: She was here before the audiences came — and she’s here to stay. A’ja Wilson, one of the greatest players to grace the court, wants to become the veteran she never had.
  • 💐 GIVE THE FOREMOTHERS THEIR FLOWERS: From Alice Milliat to Sha’carri Richardson, the road to Olympics equality has been long and victorious. Here’s a short history.
  • 🔮 THE FUTURE OF FINANCIAL ADVICE: Women are “poised to control a significant portion of the $30 trillion held by Baby Boomers by 2030,” according to the World Economic Forum, which means that the banking industry needs to change to meet their needs.
