The group is made up of Nicky Benedek, Alex Talan, and Anthony Calonico. We heard about their new self-titled record via Philip Sherburne’s recent review of it in Pitchfork. Released on Music from Memory, Total Blue consists of chilled-out, loosely structured jazz reminiscent of Wally Badarou, Bill Frisell, even Vangelis. “Everything, from the flanged guitar to the LinnDrum thwacks, seems designed to evoke a specific era and spirit of digitally abetted jazz production,” observed Sherburne. Second we’re playing the Coolwater EP from 2020, which despite its name features all three Total Blue members.
