A yoga mat that prevents slippage

When editor Katie Okamoto first stepped into a “jewel box of a yoga studio” in New York City’s Chinatown, she thought she was simply finding her new favorite place to work out. Little did she know she’d also be introduced to her new favorite yoga mat.

“The studio provided these powder-blue mats with a textured rubber that was grippy without being sticky, cushioned without being squishy,” she writes. Class after class, she noticed she did not slide on this particular mat—something her sweaty palms usually guaranteed.

This yoga mat is now our top pick thanks to its unique surface that absorbs moisture and maintains traction in sweaty situations. “In the decade since buying my own, I have not looked back.”

While a sports bra’s job (defying the laws of physics) is no small feat, the options we’ve found—including a pull-on racerback style and an ultra-comfortable, adjustable one—should feel supportive enough to get you through any activity.

One last thing: “I’m an outdoor expert at Wirecutter. Here are my favorite REI Labor Day sale deals.”

Before you put your hiking, camping, and cycling equipment away for the season, some advice from senior editor and outdoors expert Christine Ryan: Take a close look at it all. What’s still in good shape? What’s worn out? What turned out to be not quite right for your needs?

The end-of-summer sales that pop up around this time of year offer a good time to upgrade or replace your outdoor gear. And we’re seeing plenty of deals on many of our recommendations in REI’s sale—including a family-sized tent, some great hiking shoes, and an astonishingly comfortable sleeping pad.
