The Cut - 10 Essentials for Virgo Season

You probably already know this, but it bears repeating: SPF should be worn year-round. Just because summer is on its way out does not mean I let myself skimp on the sunscreen, and I’ve noticed that Vacation’s Classic Lotion SPF 50 gives me a nice little glow without leaving my face too shiny. But on the off chance you do forget to reapply, the After Sun Gel is a soothing balm for any minor redness or burns from UV rays.

In the summer, I let myself have a little fun with a cocktail here and there, but as the fall comes into focus, I try to dial back my alcohol consumption. Plenty of holidays and events are on the horizon, and sometimes your body just needs a reset. I also find that if you’re hosting a dinner party (a quintessential autumnal activity), you should offer your guests a nonalcoholic beverage that isn’t just seltzer. (No shade to seltzer, but unless you’re serving a special flavor that isn’t found in most stores, it just feels kind of lazy.) Ghia’s Le Fizz Strawberry Orange Blossom is a great option; it comes in a large Pét-Nat-style bottle so there’s plenty to share, and it tastes exactly like it sounds.

With Virgo season comes the reminder that routines are essential — the gym routine being one of them. Finding a sneaker that is functional enough for me to wear to a workout and stylish enough to keep on while I head out to run errands or do whatever else I need to do seemed like an impossible equation until I found the New Balance 530.

I once had a massage at the EDITION Hotel, and it was one of the most relaxing experiences I can remember from that vacation. But what made it even better was the Le Labo products in the bathroom and hammam areas. Now, whenever I travel with this set, I’m not only reminded of that fantastic massage, but I also feel like I’m bringing luxury with me wherever I go. It’s not Virgo season if you’re not winding down, cozying up, and getting comfy in your space at home. What better way to do that than to put on my UGG Tasman slippers for knocking around the house? Plus, they give me an extra inch of height, a win-win.

Virgos and notebooks go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Getting a fresh notebook every September reminds me of going back-to-school shopping with my mom for the start of the school year. It’s a nice memory, and having a blank page to fill makes me feel grounded. (They make nice gifts, too.)

Remember when I said Virgos are practical? Well, I meant it in terms of personal style, too. I don’t have a lot of flashy, colorful pieces. I’d rather stick to the classics. With these Sebago loafers, classic is literally in the name — but the brown/burgundy color is just different enough to stand out the right amount.

I once read a statistic somewhere that said eating pickles (and other fermented foods) can reduce anxiety. Whether or not that is true, I choose to believe it is real, because whenever I eat pickles, specifically those from Grillo’s, there is just something about the balance of salt, vinegar, garlic, and herbs that instantly puts me at ease. I’m fully not joking. I’m such a Grillo’s stan I tell everyone to look at its merch shop (I have a psychedelic T-shirt that I proudly wear, and I’m eyeing the lunch sack). Also, its new screw-top packaging minimizes spills, which makes the Virgo in me happy. The real star of the show, however, is its hot pickle de gallo. I’m telling you, put this out at a dinner party and watch what happens. The label says to consume within ten days of opening, but there’s no way it could last that long in my house.
