Secret Service Protection Bill Passes House

The House unanimously passed a bill enhancing Secret Service protection for former President Trump and other officials following two assassination attempts on the Republican nominee.

By a 405-0 vote, lawmakers directed the Secret Service to use uniform standards in determining agent numbers for protecting presidents, vice presidents, and major candidates.

The bipartisan bill, introduced after the first assassination attempt on Trump in July at a rally in Pennsylvania, is separate from proposed measures that would approve additional funding for the Secret Service.

It’s unclear if the Senate plans to consider the measure.

Three Mile Island to Reopen

Constellation Energy will reopen Three Mile Island nuclear plant, infamous for its 1979 meltdown, to power Microsoft's data centers.

Constellation is set to invest $1.6 billion to revive the reactor, pending approval by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval, as well as securing state and local permits.

Microsoft announced it signed a 20-year deal with the energy firm to purchase all power from the restarted reactor, aiming to fuel its AI-driven data centers with carbon-free energy by 2028.

Three Mile Island could potentially create 3,400 jobs and contribute $16 billion to the state’s economy, Constellation officials say.
