Today we’re listening to Mong Tong, a Taiwanese psychedelic rock band based in Taipei. We discovered them in the excellent Concrete Avalanche newsletter. Mong Tong is a duo of brothers Hom Yu (bass, synth, laptop) and Jiun Chi (keyboard, synth, guitar), who are inspired by ‘60s and ‘70s psych rock, Taoism, computer games, and the occult.¹ We’re playing two Mong Tong records. First up is their new one from this past Friday called Mongkok Duel, which is a series of collaborative jam sessions with Beijing’s Gong Gong Gong. We’re also playing the 2020 record Mystery, which goes more minor / diminished and incorporates darker themes. Mong Tong is currently on tour in the U.S. Mongkok Duel - Mong Tong & Gong Gong Gong (40m, no vocals) Mystery - Mong Tong (40m, spoken vocals on tracks 3 and 4) Have an awesome Thursday.
