Bitcoin saw a significant price surge this week, nearly reaching it’s all time high price before falling back a bit. Other tokens lagged behind the price increase, and, of course, dropped significantly when Bitcoin took a downward turn, leaving many crypto holders still waiting for that magical ‘alt-season’.

Binance’s CEO, CZ (Changpeng Zhao) was just released from jail this week after spending four months in prison in the United States for money laundering violations leveled against the Binance platform. Barred from returning to an executive position at Binance for three years, CZ has shifted his attention to other areas of interest, including AI.

While the initial AI hype has died down a bit, actual, useful AI integrations are starting to appear, including in web3 gaming. We’ll talk a little bit more about AI and blockchain gaming in this week’s newsletter, and expect mentions of AI to only increase in the coming months!

AI development in web3 gaming continues 🧠

We talked a bit about AI in web3 in last week’s newsletter, but the buzz around AI is starting to pick up again, so it seems like a subject that we will continue to revisit in the foreseeable future.

The AI revolution in web3 gaming is closer than you might think. Soon, AI-driven bots will be our helpers, our facilitators, our opponents, and our companions. AI insights will change game metas, and natural language interfaces will become much more common.

A few web3 projects that are developing AI tools include AI Arena, where players train their own AI fighters, Today, where players will talk and work with an island full of AI-controlled characters, Beyond Human who seeks to create an entire world driven and controlled by AI NPCs, and Rebel Cars, who are creating AI companion personalities for their Pit Girl NFTs.

On top of that we have AI platforms and tool creators such as Arc Agents, the team behind AI Arena, building human-trained AIs for other developers, GameGPT who want users to create games with the help of AI agents, AGIX, a web3 marketplace for AI tools, and distributed computing services such as Aethir and Kinetic Elite.

AIs will soon be in your games, building your games, and even running your games!

Immutable receives notice from the SEC 📖

Immutable just revealed this week that they have received a Wells Notice from the SEC. A Wells Notice is a formal notification issued by a U.S. financial industry regulator, (such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)) to notify them of discovered, legal infractions. In this case, the SEC is claiming that the IMX token is a security, which would require all sorts of extra legal and bureaucratic hurdles.

The SEC has already lost lawsuits against Ripple for similar claims, and withdrawn attempted investigations into Ethereum. But that hasn’t stopped them from issuing plenty of other notices to crypto organizations including Coinbase, Uniswap, and OpenSea.

It’s pretty clear that the SEC wants the ability to have some control over crypto. But government control is the complete opposite of one of the founding tenets of cryptocurrency!

Immutable seems pretty confident that they are in the right in this case. But, in the meantime, their IMX token has taken a hit, dropping over 11% in the last 24 hours.
