To have everything and that white picket fence—well, it all adds up.

In this infographic, Visual Capitalist uses data from Investopedia to break down the cost of living “The American Dream”.

It combines the lifetime cost of owning a car, getting married, buying a home, raising two children, retiring, and other small items (vacations, pet ownership, and funeral expenses) to compute a total cost of $4.44 million.
