President-elect Donald Trump spent much of his first term railing against TikTok, basically claiming that the app is nothing more than Chinese spyware. He even effectively banned the app in 2020, although it was later saved by the US legal system.

Things did not improve for TikTok under President Joe Biden, who shared many of the same concerns. It all came to a head in April, when President Biden signed a law banning TikTok, unless TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sold its stake by January 2025.

Now, TikTok may have another chance.

The company behind AI code editor Cursor has bought Supermaven, an AI coding assistant.

Anysphere will initially use Supermaven's capabilities to launch a smarter, faster version of its autocomplete feature, Cursor Tab.

The new Tab will be "context aware," and better able to deal with long code sequences.

Dmytro Gerasymenko came up with the idea for Ahrefs while trying to create a web crawler for indexing PDF documents.

His fascination with the search world began when he was still in college. That's when he started his first internet project, a simple documentation search engine that generated some search traffic, allowing him to sell books online.

A decade after leaving college, Dmytro decided to recreate his search engine, but this time, aimed to build a web crawler.

Here's how he created a product that promoted itself, and grew it rapidly.

This is great advice for all businesses, but it's especially great advice for indie hackers.
