While this fixture might not promise fireworks in terms of entertainment, its significance as a six-pointer in the battle for top-flight survival cannot be overstated. Holstein Kiel, sitting 17th with five points, and St. Pauli, in 16th with eight, are both desperate to escape the relegation zone this weekend.

SC Freiburg endured a nightmare outing in the Bundesliga last Saturday, falling to a crushing 4-0 defeat in Dortmund. To make matters worse, Julian Schuster’s side saw both midfielder Patrick Osterhage and center-forward Junior Adamu sent off, compounding an already calamitous afternoon.

The loss was a perfect storm of errors, including questionable decisions in Schuster’s lineup. His choice to recall seasoned veterans Nicolas Höfler (34) and Lucas Höler (30) backfired, as neither managed to meet the demands of Freiburg’s high-energy system.
