Happy Cyber Monday, AKA the last hurrah for big discounts until next year. What’s worth getting today? Tech gadgets, certainly. (In fact, several of our audio expert’s favorite headphones are on sale right now.) Or that big-ticket purchase you’ve been eyeing all year long. (For all of us who have had an espresso machine lingering in cart: Now is our time.) And yes, of course, deals on great gifts abound.

But there’s also another expert approach for today, taken straight out of many Wirecutter journalists’ playbooks: Stock up on your priciest essentials. Deputy editorial director Maxine Builder is grabbing a few bottles each of her favorite shampoo and conditioner, because, as she put it on Slack this morning, “I know I’ll be annoyed buying it full price in like two weeks.”
