I took two days of annual leave to extend my holiday break to a two full weeks. Did I use that time to relax before all of our holiday hosting craziness? I did not. I baked, wrapped gifts, and purchased some last minute items. Scratch off tickets make for fun stocking stuffers.

• Our kiddo loves “snack dinner” and charcuterie boards are one of my favorite things. I need to get my hands on a copy of Big Boards for Families.

• The last three entries for Anne Helen Petersen’s Bama Confidential series are still sitting in my inbox. I need to get around to those before next year’s Rush starts.

• Who says academia has to be boring? “Gin, Sex, Malaria, and the Hunt for Academic Prestige” seems like quite the story about anthropological research. (*may be paywalled)

• I would watch Kate Winslet in anything, but I am exceptionally excited for her turn as a wartime photographer in Lee.

• Generally, I don’t do scary/gory/horror movies, but I am going to make an exception for 28 Years Later. I showed the husband the trailer and he was practically giddy.

• I read The Flatshare a few years ago. I’m eager to watch how they turned the story into a rom-com series. Just need to figure out how to stream it in the US…

• It’s hot beverage season and I occasionally enjoy a nice cup of tea at work. However, in our newly remodeled library the kitchen with the kettle and Keurig is not as readily accessible to me. I think I’ll buy an electric kettle to keep in the kitchenette just behind my office.

• The National Building Museum always has great things. They just put up an indoor skating rink for a few weeks. We might have to dash over with the kiddo for a visit before it closes.

• My Pinterest boards are out of control. The books I want to read are particularly messy. Maybe I’ll spend some time over the break cleaning them up.
