The 12 Most Spoken Languages Globally

The most liked post in 2024 was from Visual Capitalist, and it shows the most spoken languages globally.

Simple and with very clear takeaways that everyone can relate to, it’s no wonder why this visualization got so much attention.

English takes the cake with 1.5 billion speakers and Mandarin also clocks in with over 1 billion speakers. But it’s really the rest of the list that probably caught the eyes of most people: Urdu, Standard Arabic, Bengali, and Indonesian all crack the ranking.

  VISUAL OF THE YEAR

The Raw Materials in Your Laptop

It’s worth highlighting our Visual of the Year award winner here again, since users crowned this visual by Toonitopia for the top spot.

Speaking of visuals that everyone can relate to, there’s a reason this graphic resonated in what turned out to be a very tight race.

Every day we use technological devices like laptops and smartphones which are designed to be simple to use. However, underneath the surface is a complex cluster of materials and electronics that keeps everything working.

That’s why visuals like this hit home: they help us understand something that we all know is inherently more complex, but we’ve never took the time to think about.
