Juniper

New 2025 Model Y (Juniper) spotted in Spain with details
The upcoming refresh of the Tesla Model Y, codenamed Juniper, has been spotted in Spain, featuring design updates including a front camera similar to the Cybertruck's and distinct rear tail lights. Tesla is preparing for its launch, hinted to happen before Chinese New Year with expected deliveries in February. The visual changes suggest a divergence in design elements from the Model 3, and while the interior may remain similar to the Model 3, changes such as light bars and different mirrors are anticipated.

Model Y Juniper light bar to integrate turn signals 📷
Enthusiasts on r/teslamotors are discussing the integration of turn signals into Model Y’s anticipated Juniper light bar, enhancing its design distinctiveness from previous models. Opinions vary, with some longing for the return of fog lights, while others debate the functionality of merged marker and signal lights. Check out the full conversation and opinions here.

Referral program

Tesla adjusts referral incentives for 2025
Tesla has reset its referral program discounts to $1,000 off in the US for eligible models, stepping down from 2024's year-end enhanced savings. Owners benefit too, gaining credits per referral for services or new purchases. The start of 2025 also means referral counters are reset, with credits from 2024 expiring 12 months after they were earned.

Cybertruck and Cybercab

2025 Cybertruck now eligible for $7,500 EV tax credit
In a win for potential Cybertruck owners, the US Environmental Protection Agency has updated its list to include the Tesla Cybertruck as eligible for the full $7,500 Federal Tax Credit starting January 2025. This incentive applies to the Single Motor and Dual-Motor AWD variants, with the latter priced at $79,990, just under the price cap for eligibility. Although the official Tesla site has yet to reflect these updates, the Cybertruck AWD effectively starts at $72,490 after the tax credit.

Under the hood

Service mode plus update adds Cybertruck wiring diagram ðŸ“·
Tesla's Service Mode Plus for the Cybertruck now includes an interactive wiring diagram, allowing for detailed scrutiny of the vehicle's electrical systems. This DIY-friendly update provides owners and technicians the means to explore wiring origins, terminations, and connector pinouts, simplifying troubleshooting and repairs. Toolbox3 subscription is required for access, making vehicle service more transparent and user-friendly for home mechanics.

Tesla patent unveils FSD performance optimization techniques
Tesla's latest patent details intricate optimization strategies behind their Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, including AI subnetworks for task specialization, tailored compilers for various hardware components, and strategic task assignments to maximize efficiency. Key elements include an execution scheduler for response time, quantization-aware training to balance performance with resource use, synchronized clocks for accuracy, and redundancy for reliability. This reveals Tesla's deep focus on fine-tuning FSD force efficiency and safe autonomy.

Tesla opens electronic parts catalog to the public
Tesla has taken a step toward supporting the right to repair movement by making its Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) available to the public, allowing owners to purchase certain car parts directly. While this improves transparency and DIY potential for enthusiasts, restrictions are in place—some components can only be bought with a service ticket due to complexities in installation. Despite controversies and prior lawsuits regarding repair monopolies, this move opens doors to repairs for all current models except the Cybertruck.

Semi

Tesla semi tests twin tandem trailers in Nevada 📹
A recent sighting has revealed the Tesla Semi undergoing tests with twin tandem trailers in Nevada, a setup that increases transport efficiency by pulling two containers. Although this is the first known instance of twin trailers, Nevada also permits triple trailers, hinting at future testing possibilities for the Semi, which boasts a range of 300 to 500 miles per load and is expected to see mass production of around 50,000 units yearly from a dedicated Nevada factory in 2025.

🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • AWD: All-Wheel Drive
  • EPC: Electronic Parts Catalog
  • EV: Electric Vehicle
  • FSD: Full Self-Driving
  • IRL: In Real Life
