This week in our Retire with Money Facebook group, members discussed this post, which I loved for two reasons: 1) it reminds us of social interactions we can look forward to when the coronavirus abates and 2) it highlights the importance of spouses getting on the same page about spending issues. "My husband and I will be both retired this year. I can say we are very financially stable and debt free. Our struggle is when going out to eat in the restaurant my husband does not have a problem picking up the bill for everyone, while I am the opposite. I always just want to pay for ourselves even if I am with my grown up kids with their families. Where is everyone on this?"

Responses varied widely. Many said their approach depended on their dining partners. Beyond that, some water drinkers preferred not to subsidize others' alcohol consumption, while others liked to split the bill down the middle and not get too granular. There's no right answer here, of course. Do what feels right. Just square your position with your spouse before the bill arrives!
