Today I want to walk you through the 4 non-negotiable criteria I use when determining if a lead is a good lead.

Having this list makes all the difference when going and searching for new leads. I’ve developed this list over years of trial and error that have cost me thousands of dollars.

Don’t make my same mistakes, use these four criteria when evaluating new leads:

1. A great budget
A good web design / development project will always have a realistic, high-paying budget. For most agencies that's going to be somewhere in the $20,000–$75,000 range.

2. Warm (actively seeking an agency)
This is a biggie. It’s typically a waste of time to try and pitch someone who isn’t looking to buy what you sell. If you're a web design agency, the sales process is going to be a lot easier if the client you’re talking to is already in the process of looking to hire a web design agency.

3. Strong reputation
Scammy-looking organizations are never good leads. If a company doesn’t look reputable or trust-worthy, they're most likely not worth pursuing. Toss them out.

4. Realistic work scope
If a client wants an eBay clone built in 3 days for $500, this is an obvious warning flag – but even projects with substantial budgets can become impractical if the scope of work isn’t aligned with their budget.

If a lead fails in any of these four areas, I throw it out.

What's left is usually a perfect-match, ready-to-pitch lead.
