  • A reminder to stay privacy-minded at protests. The digital footprint you create can be tracked with digital surveillance tools, leaving you and others vulnerable to identification, monitoring, and other unintended consequences. The Markup explains how to protect your data. [themarkup.org]
  • If you haven't decided to delete Facebook yet, take a step toward better protecting your privacy with the new ‘Manage Activity’ feature, which "allows users to [delete or archive] posts... and makes it easier for users to manage bulk posts at once." [mashable.com]
  • Sadly, fraudsters have exploited COVID-19 for new scams, the latest of those centered around state contact-tracing initiatives. To protect yourself:
    • Don't click links in suspicious texts.
    • Use two-factor authentication (2FA) where possible.
    • Keep your software & operating system up-to-date.

  • Companies aren't required to get permission for data collection/sharing, regularly opting users in by default. Privacy legislation, like Senator Sherrod Brown's new proposal or our Do Not Track Act, would put power in users' hands. [washingtonpost.com]
  • Norway's contact tracing app was suspended by the country's data protection authority, with claims that it "poses a disproportionate threat to user privacy" by using real-time GPS location tracking & using user data for research purposes without consent. [techcrunch.com]
  • Privacy is for everyone. It's not about status, its about fundamental human rights. [elle.com]

And finally, we're proud to help Apple identify trackers to block in upcoming iOS 14, giving hundreds of millions of people more simple privacy without any trade-offs. [twitter.com]
