This week in our Retire with Money Facebook group, members discussed this story by a financial planner in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It discussed a topic of perennial interest among pre-retirees fortunate enough to have the choice: whether it's best to take a lump sump payout from their former employer or a monthly annuity for life? Planner Wes Moss explains the 6% rule: "If your monthly pension offer is 6% or more of the lump sum, it might make sense to go with the guaranteed pension. If the number is less than 6%, you could do as well (or better) by choosing the lump sum and investing it."
