TFW you have a money coach in your corner

As a Person Who Writes Things, I’m a big believer in the idea that you can learn plenty about money on your own, given the right things to read (ahem). Even enough to do the thing and really start practicing financial self-care.

But sometimes you just want a person to talk to about it all. Someone who can answer your questions. Someone to reassure you that yes, you understood your 401(k) right, or yes, your plan to pay off debt is a good one, or yes, you can absolutely take control of your spending. Someone who can help you make a plan for your money in accordance with your actual, unique-to-you life so that you can get pumped about all those goals you’re going to hit.

I can tell you from personal experience: The financial planners (aka money coaches) here at Ellevest are incredible — at their jobs, and as people. And they’re cheering for you hard.

Calendar reminder: Wednesday is tax day

Because of the coronavirus, tax day was pushed back this year — it’s July 15th. That’s the last day to file your taxes, if you haven’t yet, and to max out your 2019 IRA if that’s something you were planning to do.

Book a session to build an IRL budget

You and your coach will create a full spending plan together. They’ll follow up with a specific (but realistic) one-page budget plan for paying your bills, spending, saving, investing, and non-monthly expenses. Aka everything.

Book a session to make a plan to pay off debt

You’ll work with a financial planner to discover ways to approach your debt that feel right. They’ll follow up with a realistic plan, including a prioritized list of debts to pay and a calendar for the next three months to get you started.
