5-Bullet Friday

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of “5-Bullet Friday,” a list of what I’m pondering and exploring.

TV series I just binge-watched —
Green Frontier (Frontera Verde), co-created by Diego Ramírez Schrempp, Mauricio Leiva-Cock, and Jenny Ceballos. The production company for the series is Dynamo (@DynamoCine), which was also behind Narcos and El Chapo. I’ll skip the text description and just recommend that you watch the trailer here. Suffice to say, I asked my girlfriend if she would watch this with me, and less than 30 seconds into the trailer, she replied with an unequivocal “HELL, NO.” I don’t do creepy often, but when I do, it’s something like Frontera Verde. Thanks to my friend Doug for the recommendation.

What I’m listening to —
Ground On Down(YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music) by Ben Harper (@benharper).

What I’m reading —
The Four Quadrants of Conformism by Paul Graham (@paulg). Pair this with Paul’s 2004 essay “What You Can’t Say,” which features The Conformist Test: “Let’s start with a test: Do you have any opinions that you would be reluctant to express in front of a group of your peers? If the answer is no, you might want to stop and think about that. If everything you believe is something you’re supposed to believe, could that possibly be a coincidence? Odds are it isn’t. Odds are you just think what you’re told.”

What I’m watching (short cinematic video) —
Hawai‘i’s Axis Deer: From Invasive Species to Food Source. This short video is stunningly beautiful. I saw early edits, and I’ve been looking forward to sharing it. Patagonia Provisions supported and co-produced the piece.

I’m not involved with many companies these days, but I’m thrilled to be helping Maui Nui Venison. Their ethos and mission are a rare blend of many things I care deeply about. Maui Nui venison is wild-harvested from Maui’s invasive axis deer population. Axis deer severely impact Maui’s ecosystems, and if not actively managed, their population will quadruple in size over the next 20 years. Beyond their mission to help balance these populations, Maui Nui Venison’s taste and nutritional profile are unbelievable. Harvested using stress-free methods, their fresh venison is clean tasting, tender, and one of the most nutrient-dense red meats on the planet. I’ve leaned out significantly in the last two months of eating predominantly Maui Nui venison.

As friend and past podcast guest Justin Boreta texted me last night (and I had no idea he’d even tried it): “This Maui venison is so good… Holy sh*t! I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up. I smoked some medallions and then made them into something like a brisket scramble. It was beyond. It tastes better knowing that it’s also sustainable. Dunno if/why I will go back to beef unless it’s super special.” For those who like ribs, here are some pics of my last rib meal.

My go-to protein-rich snacks are their Venison Sticks, and Maui Nui is offering subscribers of this newsletter 20% off all their snack products—simply use code TIM at checkout. If you’d like more related reading, check out this blog post: In Balance with Nature.

Quote I’m pondering —
“Don’t try to solve serious matters in the middle of the night.”
Philip K. Dick

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — Laird Superfood. I love Laird Superfood products—creamers especially—and was introduced to them years ago by Kelly Starrett and the founders, legendary big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton and volleyball champion Gabby Reece. My favorite two products are their Turmeric Superfood Creamer and Unsweetened Superfood Creamer, and their $10 bags last a long time. I put one of them in practically everything—combined with some chaga this morning, actually—and a tablespoon easily upgrades your daily coffee or tea.

Each serving is packed with a full range of MCTs to help keep you and your brain going from AM to PM, even/especially if you’re intermittent fasting. Packed with plant-based ingredients like powdered extra-virgin coconut oil, flavors include cacao, chocolate mint, and turmeric. Simply stir, power-froth, or blend into your cup of coffee, and you have a superfood latte. This is one affordable indulgence I’ve really come to love. Get 20% off your first order and score free shipping at LairdSuperfood.com with code TIM at checkout. Stay fueled, my friends!
