Video storage setup (Sentry, Dashcam)

If you ask me what is the first thing you should do after taking delivery of your Tesla, I'd say setting up TeslaCam and Sentry Mode. Sentry records with four of the eight cameras when it senses activity near your car while parked. This is one of the features that I hope you never have to use but, if someone does something to your great car, you will have video evidence of it. Cool, right?

TeslaCam saves video footage of the last hour of driving by default. In addition, you can tap on the camera icon to save the last ten minutes in a separate folder. And lastly, you can also enable the option to auto-save the footage when honking (Controls > Safety & Security > Save Clips on Honk).

As of right now, Tesla offers the possibility of viewing
videos directly in the touchscreen (MCU2 only) but you still need somewhere to store those videos. Buying storage for Sentry Mode video is not expensive and it's the number one accessory I always recommend people to get.

But, what USB to get? How can you watch videos on your phone? Here are the basics:

Storage - Save the videos

Apps - Where to watch the saved videos

  • Dashcam Viewer. If you have MCU2 you can watch the videos in your car.
  • Smartphone
  • Desktop (Windows) - TeslaCamViewer
And here’s a couple of useful articles to learn more (including details on how to format the USB or SD card):
