Happy Friday! Welcome to another issue of the Spotify Newsletter! It’s another BIG week of news for the streaming music behemoth.
Of course, the news of the week was the reaction - both positive and negative - to CEO Daniel Ek noting in an interview that “you can’t record every three to four years and think that’s going to be enough.” Well… I think it all depends on the artists, but I prefer my favorites to deliver as much material as possible. Give me outtakes, unfinished demos, perfect recordings, full albums, live cuts, etc… I always want more more more.
But I also understand that an artist or band have their own schedule for creativity.
And now… the news!

We’re at 92 markets now and there’s something close to 120-130 markets around the world, so among them of course the big, big region that’s missing for us is many parts of Africa. That’s definitely something we’re excited about and we’re looking into what the feasibility is to expand even further.
⭐️ Spotify Launches 'track IDs,' New Electronic Playlists
We've all been there: standing stationary in the middle of a crowded dancefloor with Shazam open and our phone thrust towards the speakers as we attempt to figure out what song is playing, only to get a "no track info available" message.
Spotify and 20 of the world's most cutting-edge DJs are here to assist via a newly unveiled suite of dance/electronic playlists, "track IDs."
⭐️ Spotify’s video podcasts bring hosts — and advertisers — closer to fans
While hardly the first streaming music service to offer video (Apple Music and Tidal both have extensive video collections), you can bet that Spotify’s video strategy is less about creating a multimedia experience, and more about creating a monetized experience.
