Happy Wednesday, muggles. The American Diabetes Association is fighting against unnecessary amputations of Black diabetics. A few months ago, we shared a ProPublica investigation that found Black diabetics are 3x more likely to lose a limb. Now, lawmakers and organizations are trying to reduce the disparity and the ADA has created a Health Equity Bill of Rights. 39 missing children found in Georgia

In the span of two weeks, U.S. Marshals Service arrested nine people, rescued 26 children, and found 13 other children in safe locations. Many of these children had been victims of child sex trafficking, child exploitation, sexual and physical abuse, and had medical or mental health conditions. 

And this isn’t a standalone issue. The FBI has more than 421,000 missing children reports, with the majority (~90%) considered endangered runaways. Furthermore...

• ~300 young girls in the Atlanta area are trafficked every month

Apple accidentally approved malware on Macs for the first time

Apple is known for having strict rules for apps to ensure malicious software doesn’t make it into the app store, but researchers say they found the first Mac-approved (“notarized” in Apple lingo) malware. 

The malware was reportedly disguised as an Adobe Flash installer, which is quite common, but usually Macs block it. Somehow, Shlayer malware made it through the cracks and received notarization from Apple. 

What does Shlayer malware do?

• Intercepts encrypted web traffic
• Replaces websites and search results with its own ads to collect ad money

Apple has since removed the malware’s notarization, so it can’t run on Macs in the future. Developers fought back by making a new software that got approved again — but that has also now been blocked.
