National Poetry Month Poster Competition for Students

The Academy of American Poets invites students in grades 9 through 12 to enter artwork to be considered for the 2021 National Poetry Month poster competition. The winner will be selected by judges Maira Kalman, renowned illustrator, and Renée WatsonNew York Times-bestselling YA author and poet. The winning artwork will be printed on 100,000+ copies of the official April 2021 poster, which will be distributed for free to teachers, families, schools, libraries, and classrooms nationwide. 

World in Verse: A Multilingual Poetry Reading

Join the Academy of American Poets and Words Without Borders for “World in Verse: A Multilingual Poetry Reading,” a celebration of the 2020 Poems in Translation contest winners on Wednesday, October 7th. The event is free with advance registration and will feature readings by Bryan Mendoza, Enrique Villasis, Bernard Capinpin, Chenxin Jiang, and others, hosted by contest judge David Tomas Martinez.

Watch Academy Chancellor Terrance Hayes, author of American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassin and recipient of the 2010 National Book Award for Lighthead, deliver the 2019 Blaney Lecture: “Survey of an American Century.”

Announcing Translation Contests

The Academy of American Poets is accepting submissions for the Ambroggio Prize, given to a book-length poetry manuscript originally written in Spanish and with an English translation; the Harold Morton Landon Translation Award, recognizing a poetry collection translated from any language into English and published in the previous calendar year; and the Raiziss/de Palchi Fellowship, given for the translation into English of a significant work of modern Italian poetry. Submissions are open from September 15 through February 15, 2021.

Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize

The Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize is given to honor exceptional poems that help make real for readers the gravity of the vulnerable state of our environment at present. Submissions are now open through November 1. The judges for the 2021 Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize are award-winning poet Camille T. Dungy and climate solutions strategist Katharine K. Wilkinson.

  • Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of English to teach first-year composition and upper-level writing and literature courses. 
     
  • University of Chicago Press is seeking a full-time Managing Editor for American Naturalist Journal to liaise between editors, reviewers, authors, the American Society of Naturalists, and more.
