Placeholder: Plan a Trip for Your Mental Health

Research has shown that experiences bring more lasting happiness than things. Maybe that’s one reason why the pandemic is bringing many of us down: while we can get anything and everything delivered to our doorstep, what we really crave — friends’ hugs, community events, travel to new places — remains out of reach. But there’s some good news as we wait for this to pass. Research also finds that simply planning a trip confers mental health benefits. And plenty of retirees are doing just that, in anticipation of the day when it’s safer to hop on a plane or take to the roads again. Some are calling it “revenge travel” (revenge against the virus, that is). Learn some post-COVID traveling planning tips in today’s edition.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth

TIMELY RETIREMENT NEWS, INSIGHTS, AND ADVICE

What Will Happen to the Stock Market if There's No Clear Winner on Election Night?

What happens if neither Trump nor Biden triumphs decisively on Nov. 3? The 2000 election provides an unnerving hint.

Bank Stocks Are Offering Yields of Nearly 4%. But Are They Safe?

Memories of the financial crisis mean investors are skittish.

RETIRE WITH MONEY COMMUNITY INSIGHTS
This week in our Retire with Money Facebook group, a member asked: “What is your strategy for surviving the next market correction?” Investors are braced for volatility. Stocks have stayed buoyant for so long that it’s only a matter of time before they come down to reality. Precisely when that’ll happen, and how hard they’ll fall, remains unknown.

Members had good advice. One responded, “My asset allocation is pretty conservative. I'm just going to buckle up and ride it out. Don't need those invested funds for at least 10 years. Good luck everyone!” Another said, “Ignore the noise and hold a steady course.”

If you panic and move money to cash, you’ll lose out over the long run.
