The Problem with Hybrid Life and Long-Term Care Insurance

AARP
Two-for-one deals are great when you’re buying toothpaste or toilet paper. Long-term care insurance? Not so much. Hybrid policies that combine life and some long-term care coverage have been growing in popularity for years. In 2019, they outsold traditional long-term care policies nearly five to one. They’re a fine product for some consumers. It’s just, they’re not a bargain — though their bundled nature might make it feel like you're getting more for your money. As today’s featured story reports, a hybrid policy would cost nearly three times as much as a traditional policy with comparable long-term care benefits bought separately. Selecting a policy is a matter of weighing your priorities. Learn more about hybrid policies in today’s edition.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth

Millions of Americans Are Hoping for a Second Stimulus Check

Here are three ways it could still happen.

RETIRE WITH MONEY COMMUNITY INSIGHTS
This week in our Retire with Money Facebook group, a young member posted this question: “I have maxed out my retirement accounts, and I have thankfully saved enough money to pay off about $12,000 in student loans. However, the interest rate is pretty low (3.25%).  What is the math I should do to determine whether to just pay off the debt OR place the savings into a regular brokerage account to invest in diversified funds - taking into account taxes and inflation?” The math seems to favor investing, according to this calculator, but there are other variables to consider. One member asked what if something happens and he loses his job? “You can stop making investments... but the loan person still wants to get paid.” Another suggested it wasn’t an all-or-nothing proposition: “You can do some of both.”
