5-Bullet Friday

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of “5-Bullet Friday,” a list of what I’m pondering and exploring.

What I’m reading —
Why Private Eyes Are Everywhere Now by Patrick Radden Keefe (@praddenkeefe) for the New Yorker.

Documentary I’m revisiting —
Sour Grapes (on Amazon, Netflix, and iTunes). This film scores ~95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and both the story and its cinematic telling are simply fantastic. Here’s the description: “Controversy erupts when an unassuming young man floods the American wine market with fake vintages valued in the millions, bamboozling the wine world elite, in this humorous and suspenseful tale of an ingenious con on the eve of the 2008 stock market crash.” This is a hilarious and nearly unbelievable case study in factors that make humans vulnerable to deceit, hubris, and more.

Podcast I’m listening to —
John Arnold: The most prolific philanthropist you may not have heard of on The Peter Attia Drive podcast. Even if you have no interest in philanthropy, this podcast is an incredible profile of the mind and mental frameworks of one of the most successful traders of the last 50 years. The first half of the interview focuses on his meteoric rise, key decisions, and key insights. Here’s the official description: “John Arnold (@JohnArnoldFndtn) is widely regarded as the greatest natural gas trader of all time, but in his late 30s, he walked away from it all and turned full-time philanthropist. He and his wife have committed to strategically giving away most of their vast fortune in their lifetime and are already doing so at a staggering pace of nearly a half billion dollars a year. In this episode, John explains his quest to address the most challenging social programs plaguing the country, including criminal justice, health-care policy, and K–12 education. John also shares self-identified attributes that contributed to his success in natural gas trading and how those same traits have translated to his philanthropic aspirations.” Observant readers might recognize John’s name from his profile in Tribe of Mentors.

Music I’m listening to —
Coreto” (YouTube, Spotify) by Céu (@ceumusic).

Quote I’m pondering —
“A country is considered the more civilised the more the wisdom and efficiency of its laws hinder a weak man from becoming too weak and a powerful one too powerful.”
Primo Levi in If This Is a Man

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — Ascent Protein! I’ve been using Ascent Protein for at least three years now. Many protein powders are filled with excess sugar, questionable artificial sweeteners, or low-grade protein. Ascent Protein is an exception—it contains zero artificial ingredients, zero artificial sweeteners, and zero added sugar. It’s clean, efficient, and easy on my stomach. All Ascent products are Certified Gluten Free & Informed-Sport Certified to be free of banned substances, and one small scoop contains 25g of protein and more muscle-repairing BCAAs than an equivalent serving of chicken, beef, eggs, salmon, or plant-based proteins. They also really do their homework and R&D. As one example, they tested 282 versions of the chocolate flavor (my favorite) before getting it just right. I like to add one scoop to roughly 5–6 oz of water as part of my daily routine, usually in the morning or post-workout. Mix it up in a shaker or water bottle, and you’ve got a full serving of elite protein in less than 60 seconds. Visit ascentprotein.com/Tim and use the code “TIMASCENT” to receive 20% off of their pre-workout, whey, or casein products. Enjoy!

P.P.S. In case you missed them, Naval Ravikant and Matthew McConaughey killed on the podcast this past week. Another crowd favorite coming soon...
