President-elect Joe Biden will face two historic crises when he takes the oath of office in January: an out-of-control pandemic and the economy it devastated. To conquer the first, Biden plans to announce the creation of a task force today to come up with a plan to contain it.

Tackling the other crisis won’t be easy. But, if history is any guide, the 4 in 5 voters who said the economy was their top concern have reason for hope: “The economy generally fares better under Democratic presidents,” writes William Chittenden, who studies the topic at Texas State University.
