Why should I take Your Second iOS and SwiftUI App course?

"I absolutely love SwiftUI, but I’ll be the first to tell you that once you get past the basics, it can get tricky!

There are a bunch of options for syncing up data to your UI, and it’s very possible to get into situations where your UI doesn’t update when you think it should. This can happen especially when several views are working with the same data! We’ll tackle those gotchas and others in this course.

SwiftUI is designed to be “composable”, but what that means might not be intuitive to you early on in your iOS development journey. In this course, I'll help you get a lot of experience reusing components to create more elaborate views!"

What surprised you about SwiftUI when making the course?

"In this course, you’ll be building a SwiftUI version of the app from our Table Views course. UIKit has come a long way and, while we use best modern practices for the Table Views project, I’m still astonished how much less code we need to write (and maintain!) to achieve the same result in SwiftUI."

Can you please share a cool SwiftUI tip with us?

"Using iOS 14’s Pull-Down Menus is a dream when combining SwiftUI’s Picker and ForEach Views. For example, here’s a snippet of code from the course with three options for sorting your books:

With that defined, the following is basically all you need to launch a sorting menu from a button in the navigation bar!"

Is there anything else we should know about Your Second iOS and SwiftUI App?

"SwiftUI has matured quite a bit since its first year, and I’m especially impressed with how well previews work in Xcode 12. It will be rare in this course for you to have to build to the Simulator or a device.

This is a wonderful thing for all of us developers but I think this is going to be especially useful for beginners. You’ll be able to dart your eyes back and forth on the same screen, between your code and UI, and really form a solid connection in your mind for how they connect."
