The Intercept - This is no time to slow down

In the months between Barack Obama’s euphoric 2008 election win and his inauguration in January, he surrounded himself with a team of neoliberal economists and Wall Street bankers. As the new Cabinet was being assembled and its agenda set in stone, anyone who raised concerns was promptly told to pipe down and “give the guy a chance.”

And so, despite campaign promises to the contrary, the Obama administration missed the historic opportunity opened by his election and instead grossly failed working people and the planet. We can’t afford to let Joe Biden go down the same path.

Fortunately, things have changed since 2008. Militant youth-led movements for racial, economic, and climate justice have shown every intention of staying mobilized and pushing Biden at every stage. And now we have The Intercept, a rare media outlet that never shies away from holding Democrats accountable.

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, and The Intercept’s nonprofit newsroom needs our support to continue the courageous reporting, in-depth investigation, and hard-hitting analysis that confronts the powerful and exposes the crises of our time.

This is no time to slow down. The movements we care about are still up against enormous challenges, and they rely on the kind of journalism The Intercept stands for.

My colleagues and I are incredibly lucky to be part of a team for which fearless journalism is supported with encouragement, patience, and the resources to do it right. We’re able to concentrate on what we know to be most consequential, to immerse ourselves in research, to talk to grassroots activists on the front lines, to write, write, write until what we’ve written illuminates the political debates of our era — shining enough light for all of us to envision a way forward.

The Intercept is a nonprofit whose website has no advertisers and no paywalls. It’s up to each of us to keep the lights on.

If you think this is important, informative, and impactful, please ask yourself how you can defend and strengthen this courageous institution:
