Daily Money - The Best Place to Live a Long Life

Money
I’ve never yearned to live in a warmer climate, but I suspect this New York winter will be different. With the pandemic restricting the usual indoor activities, I’ll probably be dreaming about Florida. The Sunshine State offers year-round, easy access to the outdoors, and that’s no small thing. After all, walking can add years to your life. Money recently crunched the data and found that Collier County, Fl., — home to Naples and Marco Island — has the highest life expectancy in the whole country. “Being down here and being active all winter long just allows our patients to age so well,” a local geriatrician told us. Learn more about the ingredients for a long and healthy life today.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth

TIMELY RETIREMENT NEWS, INSIGHTS, AND ADVICE

The Best Place in America to Live Your Longest Life

Its average life expectancy is 86 years old.

RETIRE WITH MONEY COMMUNITY INSIGHTS
In our Retire with Money Facebook group this week, a couple asked for ideas of where to move: “We are currently in San Diego. Great weather, but crowded and can be noisy.  Would prefer a smaller town/city, we think. Problem is, we don’t like the heat, don’t like cold & snow and don’t like hurricanes.”

Money just released our 10 Best Places to Retire in America, so I’d refer them there to start.  A couple of our winners are in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, which both have moderate climates and not much hurricane activity  (outside of the Atlantic coast in N.J.). Others winners might get cold (Colorado) or hot (New Mexico), but they’re pleasant, drier climates so they might not feel extreme. One reader suggested, “Plano and Frisco in Texas provide what you are looking for.” Another member suggested moving overseas to Penang, Malaysia, where he lives. From my summer travels a long time ago, I remember that as a charming but hot city. Given their preferences, it might be hard for them to find the perfect, year-round destination. One member said “Sounds like you need a winter place and a summer place — in different places!!”
