5-Bullet Friday

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of “5-Bullet Friday,” a list of what I’m pondering and exploring.

What I’m reading (longer but easy) —
Tales of the Dervishes: Teaching-Stories of the Sufi Masters over the Past Thousand Years. Sometimes I learn, and absorb usable truths, best through time-tested fiction. Most stories in this book are only 1–5 pages long. Description: “Dervish tales are more than fable, legend, or folklore. For centuries, dervish masters have instructed their disciples by means of these teaching stories, which are said to increase perception and knowledge and provide a better understanding of man and the world. … Idries Shah spent many years traveling through three continents to collect and compare oral versions of these remarkable stories. This anthology…contains stories drawn from the repertories of dervish masters over a period of more than a thousand years.”

What I’m rereading (short) —
Do Not Disturb: How I Ditched My Phone and Unbroke My Brain by Kevin Roose (@kevinroose) for The New York Times.

What I’m watching —
This’ll be a two-for-one bullet, since some of you will have seen the first. First, the visual feast that is My Octopus Teacher. Short description: “A filmmaker forges an unusual friendship with an octopus living in a South African kelp forest, learning as the animal shares the mysteries of her world.” Second, The Art of Living with Less Stress by Derek Sivers (@sivers), which I’m watching repeatedly. The latter might seem odd, as it’s a short clip from a podcast interview I was already part of, but I often choose what I’ll produce (interviews, videos, animations, blog posts, etc.) based on what lessons I most need to revisit. Derek’s stories in this video are currently at the top of my list.

What I’m listening to —
Beauty Beats (YouTube, Spotify) by Beats Antique (@BeatsAntique).

Quote I’m pondering —
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”
Lao Tzu

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — LMNT no-sugar electrolytes. Did you know that it’s especially important to replenish electrolytes in the winter? Cold, dry air causes sweat to evaporate more quickly, and you often don’t notice you’re dehydrated until it’s severe enough to impact mental and physical performance. To keep hydrated, I’ve stocked up on LMNT and usually use 1–2 packs per day. LMNT’s Chocolate Salt flavor, best enjoyed hot (read: hot cocoa), makes it easy to enjoy my electrolytes in the winter. My current recipe is one packet LMNT Chocolate Salt (or even a ½ packet) plus 16–20 ounces of good instant coffee and 2–3 tablespoons of heavy or coconut cream. Sip that and you’ll be ready for anything. If you’re looking for another flavor, my all-season favorite is Citrus Salt.

Electrolytes are key for relieving headaches, muscle cramps, and fatigue, whether you’re fasting, on a low-carb diet, or just leading an active lifestyle. Developed by Robb Wolf and his coaches, LMNT delivers electrolytes without the garbage—no sugar, no artificial ingredients, no coloring, no junk. LMNT is used by Navy SEAL teams as prescribed by their master chief, a dozen NFL and NBA teams, and Team USA Weightlifting.

Join Tim’s Club to order LMNT Chocolate Salt—or any of LMNT’s delicious flavors—at the best pricing available for the lifetime of your subscription. You can pause or cancel anytime, and LMNT offers no-questions-asked refunds. This special offer is available here >> DrinkLMNT.com/TIM.
