The crisis in American journalism and the debasement of our civic discourse are closely related. As a 4th-generation newspaperman who spent 28 years of my life at the Boston Globe, those developments are deeply personal to me.  When The Conversation U.S. launched six years ago, I immediately joined its Board of Trustees because I saw that this organization could be part of the solution.

The Conversation is one of the exciting young nonprofit news organizations filling the gaps in the struggling media business. By uniting scholars with editors to write evidence-based stories, The Conversation delivers facts and research to a public seeking reliable information.

Six years in, The Conversation isn’t an experiment anymore. It’s a necessity.  In this past year, our readership has more than doubled, as people confronted the uncertainty of a global pandemic and a campaign season filled with lies, half truths and disinformation.

Providing truthful journalism from experts is a cause to get behind now – and there’s no better day to do that than today. That’s because my fellow members of The Conversation’s Board and I have joined together to triple every contribution you give, two dollars for every dollar.

Your $10 contribution will become $30, $50 will become $150 and $250 will become $750. Monthly contributions will be tripled too, up to a total match of $25,000 before the end of 2020.
