Forbes - Covid-19 Is Here For The Long Haul

The seven days since the attack on the U.S. Capitol last week have been politically fraught -- and they’ve also been the deadliest days of the pandemic. Yesterday the U.S. hit an all-time high of single day deaths: 4,400 deaths from Covid-19. For the past seven days, that number is a shocking 23,463 deaths. Many factors are contributing to this current surge -- confusing lockdown mandates, a slow vaccine rollout, and of course the current political unrest which has led to protests and riots. Another possible reason for the high number of deaths: two new strains of Covid-19 that were just discovered in the U.S., at least one of which seems to be more contagious than “regular” Covid-19.
