The Europeans rethinking the gig economy

A few weeks ago, Just Eat announced its move away from gig economy workers and its plans to start offering drivers hourly pay, sick pay and pension contributions.

The move was the latest in a broader shift across Europe away from the gig economy, spurred on by a growing discourse against gig workers and increasing regulation from governments.

Taken over by the Medium monster

French ebook startup Glose has been thrust into the spotlight after it was acquired by one of the most closely watched startups in Silicon Valley.

Sifted spoke to Glose's CEO Nicholas Princen about how the deal came together, and why it was the right time to make the move.

Full story here.

 Sustainability

Websites? Yep, they're bad for the planet too

Luckily, Europe's growing community of 'clean UXers' — designers, developers and grassroots campaigners who want to improve the sustainability credentials of the internet — are taking action.

Sifted's Sarah Drumm finds out how they could help you.

Find out more about how these groups work and how you can start your own.

 Pet Tech

Fat cats: the tech startups tackling pet obesity

Over 50% of dogs in the UK — and around 40% of cats — are overweight or obese.

But the pet tech industry is coming to the rescue, with automatic pet feeders that distribute the right amount of food and pet cameras which monitor whether your pets are eating more than they should.
