Issue 148 - Redesigned Model S and Model X are here

FSD

Tesla FSD stress-tested in Berkeley, California 📹
Berkeley is a city with a lot of weird intersections (I have been able to experience them myself) so it's a good place to challenge Tesla's FSD (Beta 10) 😁 As a friend of mine told me, looking at the video, and being familiar with the locations shown, it does feel like FSD can be trusted. Nice progress!

Tesla partners with Samsung on new 5nm chip for FSD, report says
When Tesla announced their FSD Chip almost two years ago they already mentioned they were working on its next generation. This week, Electrek has published rumors of Tesla partnering with Samsung to produce that chip with Samsung. Samsung is the current producer of the FSD Chip for Tesla. As discussed yesterday during the earnings call, the new chip is three times as powerful as the current chip and it will open the door to introduce HD resolution cameras.

Model S/X

Redesigned Model S and Model X are here
The rumors of the Model S/X refresh finally turned into reality and were announced yesterday at Tesla's earnings call. Here are some highlights:
  • The exterior will remain very close to the current desing, maybe a tad more aggressive with a bigger diffuser and a front vent
  • Like the other models, it includes a black trim and a heat pump
  • Horizontal 17" display, instrument cluster display, and a screen for the second row
  • A 22-speaker, 960-watt audio system with active noise canceling
  • It offers a yoke and a more traditional steering wheel option, both of them with no stalks; all controls are via buttons in the steering wheel or the screen
  • Crazy fast, the base model 0-60 is 3.1s while the Plaid version 0-60 is 1.9s and its top speed 200mph
  • The prices of the base model and Plaid-equivalent to the previous performance- are now $10k more
I thought I was going to trade in my 2017 Model S for a new Model Y, but now I'm going to need to rethink what to do. If you are thinking about ordering it and want 1,000 miles of free Supercharging, consider using my referral code http://ts.la/ignacio9266

Tesla has dropped the price of the MCU upgrade to $1,500
Great news for Model S and Model X owners whose car was built before March 2018. If that's your case and you're planning on keeping it for a few more years, I'd definitely jump on this opportunity since Tesla just dropped the price of the MCU 2 upgrade from $2,500 to $1,500.

Model S Plaid vs. Model 3 Performance - 1/4 mile visualized 📷
Great visualization, compared to the Model S Plaid the Model 3 Personance seems slow. P.S. This is from before Tesla announced the refresh, it's even faster now!

Model Y

Great Model Y thrid row review 📹

Comprehensive and very informative, this review shows how the third row of the Model Y can a 5' 8" person sitting in the third row with all of the other seats in normal position. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person, but after all the reviews, I honestly think it's more spacious than it seems.

Model Y power frunk

One of the best places to transport food in your Tesla is the frunk because it contains odors. And one of the best ways to avoid getting your dirty fingers all over your frunk is with this power frunk accessory. This is a very popular accessory amongst Tesla owners and now it's available for the Model Y as well.

The details of Model Y's HEPA filters 📷
According to this Redditor the Model Y's HEPA filter has two layers , the top layer is like the filter in Model 3 and the bottom layer is HEPA with plastic case. This is, as someone pointed out in the comments, a pretty clever idea since the first filter, most likely cheaper to replace, would clean the air before the HEPA filter, and that way I assume it will increase the lifetime of the HEPA filter.

The perfect birthday card for the Cybertruck enthusiasts
One can't deny that Tesla chose a really bold design for the Cybertruck, so much that we keep seeing- almost weekly- folks using it for all sorts of different things. This week, we bring you the perfect birthday card for that special Cybertruck enthusiast in your life.

What the acronym

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • FSD - Full Self-Driving
  • MCU - Media Control Unit (touchscreen)
  • HEPA - High-Efficiency Particulate Air
