Poll: Americans Are Leaving The House More | How This Unsung Black Entrepreneur Changed The Food Industry Forever

More than one in five Americans believe they’ll be able to return to their “normal” lives within six months and an increasing number of people are now socializing and leaving their homes, a new Axios/Ipsos poll found, as Covid-19 restrictions ease amid a recent decline in case rates and increasing vaccinations—even as public health officials warn against it.

KEY FACTS

More Americans have reported dining out, going to non-grocery retail stores and socializing over the past week than before, the poll found, with 44% saying they’ve visited friends or family in the past week—up seven points from a month earlier.

Only 13% of respondents said they “self-quarantined” in the past week by staying home and avoiding contact with other people, a six percent decrease from a month ago and the lowest share since late October.

When asked when they believe they’ll be able to return to “something like their normal, pre-Covid lives,” 21% said they believe it will be within the next six months, Axios reports, up from 15% who said the same at the beginning of February.

Though people may be ready to get back to normal, most still plan to keep up with public health guidelines: 81% said they still intend to wear face masks after they’re vaccinated until the pandemic ends, and 66% will continue to social distance.

The poll was conducted March 5-8 among 1,001 Americans over age 18.
